Welcome to Dunbeg Primary School and ELC — a school like no other.
As Headteacher, I am incredibly proud to lead such a vibrant, nurturing and inclusive community. From the moment you walk through our doors, there is a genuine sense of belonging. We are a school where every child is seen, heard and valued, where diversity is celebrated, and where all learners are supported and challenged to achieve their very best. At Dunbeg, inclusion is not just something we say — it is something we live every day.
Nestled just a short distance outside of Oban, only minutes from stunning beaches and the historic Dunstaffnage Castle, our setting is truly unique. The natural beauty and rich history that surround us are not simply a backdrop — they are woven into our learning. We use our environment to spark curiosity, nurture wellbeing and create meaningful, memorable experiences that children carry with them.
Our Early Learning and Childcare setting provides a warm and joyful foundation, ensuring children begin their journey feeling safe, confident and excited about learning. As they progress through the school, they continue to thrive within a culture built on strong relationships, high expectations and unwavering belief in their potential.
One of the most distinctive features of our school is our four Clans. Through our Clan system, children work across stages to develop leadership, collaboration and creativity. They learn to take responsibility, support one another and contribute positively to our community. The sense of teamwork, pride and shared identity this creates is something truly special.
Our curriculum is rich, broad and designed to inspire. Music plays an important role in school life, with opportunities for children to learn instruments such as the Chanter and violin, developing skill, discipline and confidence in performance. We are equally proud of our strong focus on language learning, offering Gaelic and French, helping children build cultural understanding and communication skills from an early age.
We are deeply committed to excellence in teaching. Through instructional coaching, we invest in the continuous development of our staff, ensuring they are supported, reflective and always striving to improve. This ensures every child benefits from high-quality, research-informed, quality first teaching that meets individual needs and enables all learners to flourish.
We also recognise that education is strongest when it is a partnership. We aim to provide every opportunity for parents and carers to take an active part in their child’s education — whether through open communication, workshops, shared learning events, celebrations or informal opportunities to be involved in school life. We value the trust families place in us and work closely together to ensure each child thrives.
Above all, Dunbeg Primary School and ELC is a place where children flourish — academically, socially and emotionally. Our aim is that every child leaves us confident, resilient, compassionate and fully prepared for the next stage of their journey.
